1. American Airlines, WestJet sign codeshare agreement
The agreement will allow American Airlines to place its AA code on WestJet flights, enabling its passengers to connect to up to 20 Canadian cities not presently served by American or American Eagle. WestJet’s WS code initially will be placed on American or American Eagle flights from Canada to Chicago and Boston, and then be expanded throughout American’s network.
The agreement is subject to regulatory approval.
American Airlines, a unit of Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR) is the fourth-busiest carrier serving Hawaii, and Calgary, Canada-based WestJet (Toronto: WJA) is the 10th-busiest airline serving the Islands, according to PBN research.

2. Porter Airlines ground staff in Ottawa join Canadian Union of Public Employees
OTTAWA - Fifty workers who provide ground services at Ottawa International Airport for Porter Airlines have voted to join Canada's biggest union.

Customer service, ramp attendants and operations staff who work for the Toronto-based private airline will join the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Other CUPE branches represent a total of about 10,000 employees at Air Canada (TSX:AC.A), Air Transat (TSX:TRZ.B), Cathay Pacific, CanJetsd and other airlines.

3. Qatar Airways Adds Canada to Network with Montréal Service from June
Qatar Airways, the national airline of the State of Qatar, is to begin serving Canada for the first time with the launch of scheduled flights to Montréal on June 29.

The airline will be the only Gulf carrier to serve Montréal, which is Canada’s second-largest city and the largest in the French-speaking province of Québec, though Québec City is the province’s capital.

Qatar Airways will serve Montréal non-stop from Doha three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with Boeing 777-200LRs. The non-stop journey from the airline’s hub in Doha to Montréal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport will require a total flying time of 13 hrs 20 minutes.

The destination marks Qatar Airways’ first foray into Canada following a series of bilateral negotiations in Doha last year, when the airline secured rights to fly passenger and cargo flights to the country.

Montréal becomes Qatar Airways’ fourth destination in North America. The airline already operates daily flights to New York, Washington and Houston.

4. Just Ask Gemalto: Can I get online while flying?

Q: Can I access the Internet while I am in-flight? Is the connection secure?
A: Today, many airlines, such as Delta, US Airways, Lufthansa and Air Canada are offering Wi-Fi services that allow you to connect to the Internet while you are in-flight. Before flying, it is best to check with your airline carrier to see if they are offering this service. Regarding the security of in-flight Wi-Fi, keep in mind that the Wi-Fi on planes is similar to any other public Wi-Fi hotspot. To ensure security, use a virtual private network (VPN) technology that establishes a secure, encrypted link from your laptop to your remote server.
